Jonathan Sherwood is an amazing illustrator and we have had the pleasure of knowing and working with him for years so it was a great pleasure when he commissioned us to work on his online presence. Jonathan works under the alias name of Sir Merlin and really has a good collection of art behind his name.
The site has been developed around WordPress and customized according the the brief that we were given allowing for individual portfolio showcases as well as day to day blogging with a twitter feed.
It has been an amazing project for us to be involved in and we are excited that there is now a place dedicated to Jon’s work.
To start the new year off we have launched the website for RSS Distribution which is an amazing skateboard distribution company based in South Africa owned and run but really nice people.
It’s always a pleasure working with the RSS crew and we enjoyed this project from start to finish. We were commissioned to set up the content management system for the site and then developed the site according to their brief. We really like the way the site looks so clean and is filled with content.
Things here at the Melon offices have extremely busy and we have taken a lot of strain trying to get some stuff up here for you to see as we concentrate on our clients deadlines instead as this is obviously more important for us.
Let me break the silence from our side by introducing you to the latest website that we completed and went live with last week. The website back-end is worked around WordPress and customized so that the client can update news on a daily basis allowing visitors to navigate through news, team, video, product and distribution information while being allowed to comment and provide feedback on each of the posts.
Today saw the launch of a new website that we were commissioned to work on in conjunction with our UK partner, Studio Melon Ltd.
The website is for a jewellery designer in the UK that works under the name Purple Crunch and specialises in custom wedding jewellery mostly made of sterling silver. She has some really amazing stuff and it was an absolute pleasure working with her and we really wish her all the best with this venture and feel that the website will really help her move up to the next level as a professional.
Last week we photographed some really beautiful jewellery for a new client of ours, Meems and they were really happy with our work and have already commissioned us to shoot another batch of new pieces which we will be doing over the next week.
We have just completed and launched a blog site for writer Andrea Zanin. We love her work and feel really excited to have contributed to a place that will allow her work to be read online.
We have just completed and gone live with a website that we are really excited about. NSR MTB contacted us a while back to commission us to create the first fully dedicated South African Mountain Bike online resource. It has been quite a journey but everything is now in place and already their news and information is rolling in.
Today is a super exciting day for our sister company, Melon Videos, as the music video for Zebra and Giraffes 3rd single, Oxymoron, is released. The video was created by Marcus Maschwitz, Alan Shenton and Greg Carlin (band creator and frontman).
The video was photographed by Marcus at 5 and 10 frames per second using the Nikon D3 DSLR and then the 39 000+ photographs were narrowed down and about 15 000 of the were individually graded and then edited at Melon Videos resulting a FULL HD music video with a “jolty” feel to match the son.

Tsunami Seafood Emporium situated in Rosebank Mall has been a client of ours since 2004. We recently upgraded their website. It is a great website and a little different to our others!
We support a few non profit organizations / charities and one of them is 3D-Outreach.
3D-Outreach is a non-profit organization seeking to reach out, across borders, to the needs of the whole person through being a resource and support to existing long term outreach.
We sponsor the website hosting as well as email for 3D-Outreach and assist them with website marketing ideas and technical support.
Last night we shot a few photos of the team that they will be sending out with the Christmas Newsletter.
Please have a look at their site on www.3d-outreach.com and show them some support for what they are working hard to achieve.
Melon Graphics was recently contracted to create a personalised blog for musician, Alan Shenton (Harris Tweed, Cassette and Zebra & Giraffe). We created customised headers, colours, fonts and additional navigational pages for Alan using the features of wordpress, so that he would still be able to update and add blog posts himself.
This is the ideal website for a musician, artist, band or even an individual.
We recently printed the below flyers for the bands Zebra & Giraffe and Dear Reader. We loved the way the flyers came out and just thought we would post them for you to see!
We worked with our photographer Marcus Maschwitz on an Extreme sportsman’s feature in Cleo Magazine which recently came out. It was a pleasure working with such talented sportsmen.
We were recently commissioned to work on a corporate gifts and watches catalogue for International Watch Imports. We photographed all the items and designed the catalogues. It was a fun and challenging project and we really enjoyed working with these clients! For more information on what they have to offer, check out their website on www.iwicorp.co.za.
We were in our local newspaper today – The Bedfordview and Edenvale News. Here is what we had to say…
We at Melon Graphics South Africa would be really sad if the pine forest is taken down for yet another shopping centre.
Marcus Maschwitz (owner of Melon Graphics South Africa) recently did a photo shoot with up and coming South African band HARRIS TWEED and the theme is quite fitting. The concept of the photo shoot was to create a feeling of the two band members (Cherilyn and Darryl) camping in a dark forest with intent to cut down the trees to create a clearing, when the forest trees get angry and tie them up and hold them hostage! We loved how the concept worked in favour of conservation. We used this particular park for the dual purpose of petitioning against the proposed shopping centre and for the band photography.
I myself am getting married at St. Francis in the wood in December and would be devastated if the trees are gone before then. We chose this quaint chapel because of the beautiful surroundings.
We are only two people and the removal of these trees directly effects us both.
7 years ago, in 2001 Melon Graphics started, we have grown from strength to strength and it has been a fun journey. So today we are celebrating and taking it easy … Happy Birthday Melon Graphics!
SO, we had a little (HUGE) problem to deal with this week and it’s been absolute chaos. Basically, our entire house (and offices) has burnt down to the ground leaving VERY little (if anything) left to work with. Besides entire memories being destroyed, we have been trying to sort out so that we can get our work out like we normally would. We have made a plan though and apologize if we have been slow or late with any work this week.
Thank you to everyone for the support, help and understanding during this time. It’s appreciated more than we could ever show.
Melon Graphics South Africa was contracted to set up the visual marketing for iKhaya Lodge which is situated in Wilderness. We designed their logo, website and shot photographs of the beautiful guesthouse.
The beachside luxury guesthouse nestled along the breathtaking Garden Route offers visitors the opportunity to relax, unwind and become one with nature in the comfort of an elegantly furnished wooden thatched home. Needless to say we loved it there and would highly recommend that you pay them a visit if you are ever in the Wilderness / Garden Route area. For more information on iKhaya Wilderness visit www.ikhayawilderness.com
Killer Ltd is one of the companies that we have worked for several years now and it is always a pleasure working with them. Over the years they have gained our trust so we now normally have carte blanche in terms of where to take projects visually and this was one of those examples. JP du Preez is their new team rider and they wanted to run a full page advert in magazines as well as print up giant in-store POP and POS ads to introduce him to the team. We worked with Marcus Maschwitz on this.
We have worked with Soviet for a few years now on their clothing, code red and eyewear divisions shooting photographs for their advertising campaigns, magazine features, online stock and in-store point of sale advertising posters. These are a few of the latest finished products.
