zebra
and giraffe is a band based in south africa and
2008 saw the release of the debut album that was
solely recorded by greg carlin. since the album
launch greg has teamed up with musicians (alan
shenton, rob davidson, darren leader and andrew
maskell.
pre
album launch, we photographed greg at an old school
driving in downtown johannesburg and the photos
were used to market the album when he was interviewed.
as the album hit the stores,
greg worked on the first single which took to
radio really easily and made it to number one
on several south african stations. the knife was
the first single and during the filming of the
music video, we were brought in to shoot some
photographs to document the process for the media.
once the band had been formed,
we shot a photo of the guys in a forrest silhouetted
to begin their introduction to the media.
live shows is where zebra
and giraffe really make it happen and we joined
them the other day for a live performance.
we shot the music video for the zebra and giraffe single, oxymoron, and really tried to push the boundaries by experimenting with something new and i am not sure if it has been done before.
basically the video was photographed by myself at 5 and 10 frames per second using the nikon d3 dslr and then the 39 000+ photographs were narrowed down and about 15 000 of them were individually graded and then edited at melon videos resulting in a full hd music video with a “jolty” feel to match the song. these are a few of the screen grabs from the video.
below is the music video from youtube. the quality is really not that good on this version so if you have have a faster connection, please follow this link and then click to see the high quality version (bottom right of video).
our head photographer, marcus maschwitz, spent 10 days at the start of this month shooting photographs in the bush in south africa. he has some really amazing stuff that cannot be released yet but we thought we would share these 3 photos. doesn't this just make you want to go to the bush and enjoy the wildlife. nothing is better.
